Preparing for your Holiday
Page 3 of 3 LUGGAGE ALLOWANCE
If you are carrying more than the permitted weight in either your hold or your hand luggage, you will be charged for the excess up to the rate of £8.00 per kilo.
Your hold luggage allowance is 20kg plus 5kg hand luggage per person. Luggage in excess of the allowance is at the airline’s discretion and excess charges will apply for all luggage which is over the permitted weight. It is important that you are aware of this before you leave the UK as you may wish to purchase souvenirs which will add extra weight for your return flight.
If your luggage is within these limits but exceeds the allowance for your connecting flight within the UK or to or from Europe, we will reimburse the excess charge up to the above allowances.
If you are travelling to your departure airport using a connecting flight, it will be necessary to retrieve your luggage and check it in again for your flight to Luxor.
For health and safety reasons no single piece of hold luggage weighing over 32 kilos will be accepted. If your hand luggage is over the permitted limit, in the interest of safety, you will be asked to place it in the hold with your “checked” luggage.
Hand luggage includes items you are carrying such as cameras, reading material, coats etc. Hand luggage must be small enough to fit into the overhead locker 45x35x16cm or underneath the seat in front of you.
Please note that infants under two years of age do not have a luggage allowance.
ESSENTIAL ITEMS
We recommend that you include the following items in your luggage: hairdryer, a first aid kit including plasters, antiseptic cream and insect repellent, diarrhoea pills, high factor suntan lotion and a pocket torch. If you wear spectacles or contact lenses, we recommend that you take a spare pair.
You may find that a small supply of pens and paper is handy, as many visitors to Egypt like to give these as presents to the local children. The gesture is always appreciated but remember, the weight of these items will be included within your luggage allowance.
HAND LUGGAGE
Passengers are reminded that as a result of heightened security restrictions at all UK airports, certain items may not be carried on the aircraft as hand luggage. For the latest information, please check www.baa.com/security, www.dft.gov.uk or telephone a member of our Reservations Team who will be happy to provide you with the latest advice.
Always keep your valuables (including cameras and mobile phones), passport and travel documents in your hand luggage. In the rare event that your suitcases go astray, it is also advisable to include medication in your hand luggage. Should you need to carry syringes as part of your prescribed medication, you must produce a doctor’s note at check-in/security. Do not place valuables in your “checked” luggage as it is rare for insurance companies to provide cover for these items and African Safari Club will not consider such claims.
PACKING AND LABELLING
For security reasons it is essential that you use your own cases and pack them yourself. Include a label inside each case with your name, home address and holiday destination. Your cases should then be securely locked and the keys kept on your person or in your handbag. For safety reasons we recommend that luggage labels on your outbound journey show just your name, destination and boat’s name but not your home address.
LOST OR DAMAGED LUGGAGE
In the unlikely event that your luggage has gone astray or been damaged in transit, you must report this immediately to the airline representative on
arrival at Luxor airport and complete a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) Form before leaving the terminal. Without this form your insurance company may not consider your claim as it is your evidence that you have reported the loss/damage. Please also report any loss or damage to the Tour Leader on arrival at the boat with a detailed description of the bags and ensure that you retain your baggage receipt tags affixed either to your itinerary or passport.
LOST PROPERTY
In the unfortunate event that any of your personal belongings may be lost or left behind whilst on holiday with us, you may be able to make a claim through your travel or household insurers.
Although it is rare for such items to be recovered, we are happy to try and trace them for you in the first instance. A non-refundable fee of £30 will be required for this service to cover administration, communication and possible postage costs.
SPECIAL REQUESTS
If you have any special requests, whilst these cannot be guaranteed, please let African Safari Club or your Travel Agent know at the time of booking or, at the latest, 14 days prior to your departure from the UK.
DIETARY REQUIREMENTS
Any special dietary requests eg, vegetarian, diabetic, gluten free and kosher meals, should have been made at the time of booking. We will do our best to ensure such requests are met, but regrettably they cannot be guaranteed. There is a £20 round trip charge for kosher meals on Monarch Airlines.
FLIGHT SEAT ALLOCATION
Seat numbers will be allocated on a first come first served basis when checking-in for your flight. If you wish to be seated with your travel companions, it is advisable to check-in early to avoid disappointment, and advise the check-in staff of your request and how many people are in your party.
AIRPORT ASSISTANCE
At Gatwick, Manchester and Luxor airports, it may be necessary to walk some distance between the check-in desk and boarding gate. If you require assistance with your luggage or the use of a wheelchair at these airports, please let African Safari Club or your Travel Agent know at the time of booking or, at the latest, 14 days prior to your departure from the UK. Every endeavour will be made to arrange assistance.
Please note that there are a limited number of wheelchairs at these airports, so service may be slower than would normally be expected.
