Your Accommodation

34 bedrooms are housed in three separate two storey buildings or bungalows, all of which have the added attraction of a separate seating area. They are spacious and all have twin beds, a private shower and wc, a balcony or terrace with table and chairs and either air-conditioning or ceiling fans. Whether you are travelling as a couple or just two friends together, but would like your own privacy, you can choose to stay in one of the 16 small, simply furnished rooms with ceiling fans, situated on one level. Through the porch entrance, two separate doors each lead to a bedroom with a private shower and wc. In all bedrooms there is a 13-amp power point and a safe for which a small charge is made. Please note that there are no lifts.

Wining and Dining

At the Kasr al Bahar meals are taken in the restaurant which is decorated in keeping with the hotel's Arabic theme. A hot and cold buffet breakfast is offered. Lunch and dinner, including some local dishes, are served from a table d'hote menu. Alternatively, lunch may be taken at the Flamingo Beach Hotel. Afternoon tea is also served daily, for a small charge. For that special occasion, you can dine al fresco in the hotel's 'Al Dabhra' à la carte restaurant, which overlooks Mtwapa Creek and is well-renowned for its fine international cuisine. During the day, enjoy a refreshing drink at the pool bar or enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail in the main restaurant bar.

Facilities and Entertainment

Walking through well-tended gardens you will find the hotel's swimming pool, pool bar and sun terrace which provide a quiet location in which to enjoy the sunshine. Sun beds are available, for a small charge (approximately £1 per person per day). Please note that pool towels are not provided. Down several flights of steep steps (not recommended for those with walking difficulties), you reach the hotel's small jetty. Within the hotel's grounds on Mtwapa Creek, you will find a new, large man-made lagoon. The surrounding area has a well-tended garden with sunbeds, for which a small charge is made (approximately £1 per person per day) and a bar for those refreshing drinks and snacks during the day. Pamper yourself with a relaxing massage (payable locally) or should you feel energetic you can play boules and mini-golf. You can also relax on the beach, swim in the sea and enjoy the many facilities offered at nearby Flamingo Beach Hotel on Shanzu Beach. Each morning a free boat service operates from the hotel's jetty to ASC's Marina and then a short bus ride takes you to the Flamingo Beach Hotel with the transfer operating in reverse in the late afternoon. Evening entertainment at the hotel comprises music and dancing one evening each week. There is also a wider choice of popular evening entertainment at Shanzu Holiday Resort. Transport is available (on request) to and from our hotels on Shanzu Beach for those who have booked a Gourmet Pass. For those without a Gourmet Pass, taxis can be arranged with costs payable locally.

Excursions

A programme of exciting optional daytime and evening excursions is available during your stay at the Kasr al Bahar Hotel. Spend the day at sea staying watchful for dolphins and turtles. A half day tour visits the old port of Mombasa where trade ships once sailed between Arabia, Persia and India. Enjoy an evening discovering the stunning sunsets of Mtwapa Creek and the tribal dances of the Masai warriors. Prices of excursions start from just £9 per person and are only bookable locally. Watersports

If watersports are your passion or you would like to give them a try, there's dinghy sailing, windsurfing and more, available at the Watersports Centre, adjacent to the Shanzu-Paradise Beach Hotel on Shanzu Beach.

Diving Holidays

Kenya offers some of the best diving in the world with a coral reef that extends almost the entire length of the coast with a wide variety of marine flora and fauna. Diving is available offering excellent facilities for both the beginner and more experienced diver at Mtwapa Marina. From October to mid April, PADI courses are available, as well as CMAS beginner courses. These are only bookable locally.
