Madagascar Destination Guide

Madagascar is one of the world's largest islands and has a unique diversity of plant and animal life, including some 3,000 species of beetles, ferns and flowers.

Many species of lemur, mongoose and civets, and 23 species of tenrec are found on the island, along with a similarly unique variety of reptiles and amphibians.

Nosy Bé

This ‘Perfumed Isle’ is home to vanilla, sugar and pepper plantations and fringed by miles of white sand beaches. Iit’s little capital, Hellville, has many boutiques and interesting tourist shops. From here you can head into the countryside, enjoying magnificent views of the island’s deep-blue crater lakes from the peak of Mt. Passot or take a trip to the nearby island of Nosy Komba. This lovely island plays host to a colony of black lemur.

Examples of our Optional Excursions

Nosy Bé Island Tour (full day) - £38 approx
Explore the harbour town of Hellville, followed by a drive past sugar cane plantations to the island’s highest mountain, Mt Passot to enjoy the stunning views. Before a Malagasy buffet lunch at a hotel we will stop at a typical Malagasy village. After lunch you can relax and enjoy th facilities of the hotel.

Nosy Komba (half day) - £25 approx
Enjoy a visit to the lemur reserve on this small volcanic island, followed by time for swimming, sunbathing or shopping for souvenirs.

Lokobe Adventure Tour (full day) - £38 approx
Starting from Hellville, we first drive to a small village and then paddle (aprrox 45 mins) in a pirogue (traditional canoe) along the coast. We continue on foot (approx 1.5 hours) through the nature reserve, followed by lunch on the beach. In the afternoon we explore the local village. Our day ends with a return trip in the pirogue, with time for souvenir shopping in Hellville.

Nosy Komba/Nosy Tanikely (full day) - £38 approx
After a visit to the lemur reserve on Nosy Komba, we continue our day with a boat trip to the uninhabited island of Nosy Tanikely, a marine nature reserve. Here, you can enjoy one of the most beautiful snorkelling areas of Madgascar. Enjoy a Magalasy barbecue on the beach.
